SC Freiburg recorded a dominant 5-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in their only friendly of the winter break. Roland Sallai (2), Merlin Röhl, Michael Gregoritsch and Vicenzo Grifo scored for SC.

SC Freiburg’s senior team returned to full training on Tuesday afternoon following the winter break and strength training in the morning. “It was really fun, said Vincenzo Grifo after the session under the floodlights. “We went running a couple of times during the break, but it’s good to have the ball back at my feet.”

The Deutsche Fußball-Liga (DFL) has confirmed the exact timings of Bundesliga matchdays 19 to 26. SC Freiburg will be in action twice on Friday night in this timeframe, as well as twice on Saturday afternoon and four times on a Sunday.

SC Freiburg will return to training on 2nd January after the winter break and then play Eintracht Frankfurt in a friendly four days later.

Despite taking the lead twice, SC Freiburg suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat against 1. FC Heidenheim in their final match of the year. Lucas Höler scored twice for the Breisgau side.

SC will face 1. FC Heidenheim at the Voith-Arena in their final match of the season on Wednesday (20:30 CET).

The draw for the play-off round of the Europa League took place on Monday in Nyon, where it was announced that SC Freiburg would take on French first-division side RC Lens.

SC Freiburg came out on top in their last home fixture of 2023 thanks to goals from substitutes Michael Gregoritsch and Roland Sallai in the second half.

SC will host 1. FC Köln at the Europa-Park Stadion on Sunday (15:30 CET) in their last home fixture of the calendar year.

SC Freiburg suffered a 2-0 defeat against West Ham United on the final matchday of the Europa League group stage and as a result qualify for the preliminary knockout round as the second-placed side.
