SC Freiburg and Klemens Hartenbach will continue their many years of successful work together after the sporting director agreed to extend his contract.
Born in Freiburg, the 58-year-old has worked for SC since 2001, initially as a youth coach, before going on to head up the Freiburg Football School and then the scouting department. Hartenbach, who played for the club eleven times as a goalkeeper, has been sporting director for the last ten years.
“This contract extension wasn’t a matter of course; we constantly scrutinise our work and the path that the club is on, and both we and Klemens stand behind it fully,” said chief sporting officer Jochen Saier. “Klemens and his scouting team are a fundamental building block in our successful development of recent years, so we are delighted to carry on our work together with continued trust and responsibility.”
Klemens Hartenbach himself said: “Working for SC is still incredibly exciting and challenging for me, regardless of whether we are fighting to stay up or qualify for Europe. Helping shape the footballing foundations for a sustainable future is what truly motivates me every single day. I would like to say thank you for the trust put in me, and am delighted to continue to be part of this process together with my team.”
The contractual details are undisclosed.
