Freiburg have been drawn against RB Leipzig in the semi-final of this year’s DFB-Pokal for a repeat of last year’s final. The draw was made at the German Football Museum in Dortmund on Sunday evening.
Christian Streich made it clear ahead of the draw that his side will take on whoever comes their way in the semi-finals and he has no favoured opponent: “I won’t watch the draw. We’ll take it as it comes,” explained the boss. On the other side of the draw, VfB Stuttgart will take on Eintracht Frankfurt at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.
Similarly to the quarterfinal tie against Bayern Munich, SC will take on their Pokal opponents twice within a few days. They will face RB Leipzig at the Europa-Park Stadion on 2nd/3rd May in Pokal and will welcome Marco Rose’s side the following weekend in the Bundesliga.
Freiburg have beaten Kaiserslautern, St. Pauli, Sandhausen and Bayern on their route to the semi-finals, whereas Leipzig have got the better of Borussia Dortmund, TSG Hoffenheim, Hamburger SV and Teutonia 05 Ottensen.
The exact date and time has not yet been confirmed. The semi-finals will take place on 2nd/3rd May, whereas the final will be played on 3rd June at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
