Matthias Ginter will be appearing at his third World Cup finals this November, having been called up to play for Germany. The 28-year-old commented on his selection, saying:
“I’m incredibly proud to be heading to my third World Cup, having been in 2014 and 2018. It’s also a testament to the entire club, especially my teammates and the coaching staff. I’m very grateful. We have one more Bundesliga game to go, and it will be a tough test against Union Berlin on Sunday. After that, it will be important to recover, stay healthy and then give it everything in training in order to start the tournament off on the right foot. We’ll see what’s possible for us in Qatar.”
Ginter has been capped 46 times for Germany so far, scoring two goals for the side. He was part of the World Cup winning squad in Brazil in 2014, and was included in the squad in 2018 as well, although he did not feature in either tournament.
