SC Freiburg have signed 20-year-old Merlin Röhl from FC Ingolstadt. The midfielder will wear the number 34 shirt.
Merlin Röhl came through the ranks at SV Babelsberg as youngster and made the move to the FC Ingolstadt U17s at the age of 16. He made his professional debut as an 18-year-old in the 3. Bundesliga and was a part of FC Ingolstadt’s promotion to the second tier. The versatile midfielder made a total of 55 appearances for the Schanzer and has even scored two goals in four appearances in the 3. Bundesliga so far this season.
“Merlin is a very exciting player with enormous potential. From our conversations and from what we have seen on the pitch, we can see that he is ambitious, energetic and eager to learn. He is very flexible and offers offensive and defensive qualities. Merlin will undoubtedly continue his development at Freiburg and that’s something we are very much looking forward to,” explained sporting director Klemens Hartenbach.
“The move to Freiburg is a big opportunity for me and I will seize it. SC are well-known for nurturing young talent and making them into better players. This is the path I want to take both with the team and with the coaches,” said Marvin Rohl.
Both parties have agreed not to disclose further details of the transfer.
