SC Freiburg will travel to play SV Sandhausen in the last 16 of the DFB-Pokal. The draw was made on Sunday night at the German Football Museum in Dortmund.
The Freiburg fans didn’t have to wait long during the draw as Christian Streich’s side were the second team drawn, meaning SV Sandhausen will get to play the game at home, at their BWT-Stadion.
While SC won 2-1 (a.e.t.) in both the first round at 1. FC Kaiserslautern and in the second round away to FC St. Pauli, SV Sandhausen beat BSV SW Rehden 4-0 in round one and then knocked Karlsruher SC out on penalties this week at home. Alois Schwarz’s team are currently 16th with 12 points on the board in the second division.
The exact date for this tie was not announced on Sunday. All last 16 ties will be played next year due to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar which begins at the end of November. The games will take place on 31st January, 1st, 7th and 8th February 2023. This will be the first time in the history of the cup that one round of games will be spread out across four different days. The quarterfinals will be held on 4th and 5th April, the semi-finals on 2nd and 3rd May and the final will be played on 3rd June 2023.
