SC Freiburg and Vincenzo Grifo have agreed an early extension of his contract with the club.
Vincenzo Grifo joined SCF from TSG Hoffenheim in 2015 and helped the team achieve Bundesliga promotion in his first season. He moved on to Borussia Mönchengladbach ahead of the 2017/18 season, while a return to Hoffenheim followed in July 2018. After just seven appearances in the first half of the campaign, Grifo rejoined Freiburg on loan in January 2019, going on to secure a permanent return in the summer. He has since featured in 180 competitive games for SCF, scoring 55 goals and providing 59 assists. The 29-year-old is also the club’s current vice-captain. Grifo made his debut for the Italy national team in 2018 and has since won six caps, scoring two goals in the process.
“Vince and SCF are a perfect match, so we’re absolutely delighted about his extension,” said chief sporting officer Jochen Saier. “Whether it’s with his mixture of creativity and goal threat on the pitch or as a identifying figure off it, Vince is a player that everyone can get behind and has become one of the faces of SC Freiburg.”
Grifo too is delighted with his new deal: “I’m incredibly well settled here in Freiburg – I have found a piece of home here together with my family. We’re also on an incredible journey as a club and I want to play my part in continuing that journey.”
The contract details remain undisclosed.
