Midfielder Maximilian Eggestein has extended his contract with SC Freiburg.
Eggestein moved to Freiburg in summer 2021 from SV Werder Bremen and has made 116 appearances for the club since his arrival. He has netted six goals and provided eight assists in that timeframe. The 27-year-old has played in a total of 297 competitive games. Before the start of the current season, Eggestein was chosen to be SCF’s vice-captain by his teammates and is a part of the club’s leadership team.
“I’ve been here now for almost three years, but it feels like longer. It shows that SC Freiburg is the right place for me. My time here has gone even better than I expected so far, as we’ve qualified for the Europa League twice and reached the final of the DFB-Pokal,” said Maximilian Eggestein. “We’re on the right path and I’m looking forward to continuing my journey at the club.”
SCF’s sporting director Klemens Hartenbach was pleased to get the extension over the line: “Maxi has done a lot of the things we expected him to do when we signed him. He’s a great fit for the club both in terms of his ability and his personality. He’s seriously contributed to our improvement over the past few years. Maxi is one of the leaders in the dressing room, which is why we’re over the moon that he’s extended his contract.”
The finer details of Eggestein’s new contract have not been disclosed.
