Goalkeeper Noah Atubolu has agreed to an early contract extension at SC Freiburg.
The Freiburg-born shotstopper joined Freiburg’s academy in 2015 and has played for every one of Freiburg’s youth teams from the U14s onwards. In the summer of 2020, he became the first choice ‘keeper for the U23s and celebrated promotion with the team into the 3. Liga having won the Regionalliga South-West. Since then, the 21-year-old has made 56 Drittliga appearances. He made his first team debut last season in the DFB-Pokal against FC St. Pauli. He was also in goal for the Europa League game against Qarabag as well as the DFB-Pokal last 16 game against SV Sandhausen. Noah Atubolu is currently the Germany U21 national team goalkeeper.
“Noah has been working step by step up to this point in order to reach the next level. He’s got quality, self-confidence and is ready to put in top performances. A bit of luck is also needed now,” said sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. “Noah will now experience taking that final step-up - like others before him have done as well. We will be there when he needs support. It’s a real pleasure to continue to be able to help shape this path which began in the Freiburg academy at U14 level.”
Noah Atubolu himself said: "I am a Freiburg lad through and through and have already experienced a lot with the club. There was always a clear plan, and I am pleased that there is more to come. I am looking forward to it.”
The terms of the contract will remain undisclosed.
