Robert Wagner has joined Bundesliga new boys FC St. Pauli on loan. Wagner spent last season at SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the second tier.
Wagner played 31 league games for Fürth in the 2023/24 campaign, scoring four goals, as well as featuring in the DFB-Pokal for the Franconians. Wagner also featured for Germany’s youth teams, earning four caps for the U20s and two for the U21s.
Robert Wagner came the youth ranks at hometown club SC Lahr and at the Freiburg Football School. He won promotion to the 3. Liga with Freiburg’s U23s in 2021 and went on to make his Bundesliga debut the following year. Since then, the midfielder has made 48 third-tier appearances with the U23s, in addition to further senior football in the form of four appearances in the top flight and two in the UEFA Europa League.
“Overall, we’re very happy with Robert’s development. After a very good third division season with the U23s, Robert has made a seamless transition to the second tier at Fürth,” said SC sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. “Robert can now take the next step by playing top-flight football with FC St. Pauli and gain further crucial experience. We are delighted for him and will closely accompany him on his journey.”
The clubs have agreed not to disclose the terms of the loan contract.
