The first round of the 2024/25 DFB-Pokal will see SC visit VfL Osnabrück, following the draw at the German Football Museum in Dortmund.
A week after Bayer Leverkusen secured the 2023/24 DFB-Pokal, next season’s competition has begun to take shape. The 64 teams taking part in next season’s competition now know their opponents for the first round, and for SC Freiburg that means a trip to VfL Osnabrück. The draw was carried out by former SC player Nils Petersen, who reached the final of the competition with the club in 2022. After the draw, Petersen said: “I love this competition, because it always throws up lots of surprises.”
On his former team’s opponents for the first round, Petersen said: “It’s a tough draw – I won’t be getting a lot of positive messages from Freiburg.” Freiburg have faced Osnabrück in the cup once before, prevailing on penalties in a second-round tie in 2021/22.
The Lower Saxony outfit finished 18th in last season’s 2. Bundesliga and will therefore spend the coming campaign in the third tier. They were knocked out in the first round of this competition last year by 1. FC Köln.
The first round of the DFB-Pokal will take place between 16th and 19th August, with dates and times for each fixture yet to be announced.
