Following the draw in Nyon on Friday, SC Freiburg will play against West Ham United in their UEFA Europa League last 16 tie.
SC have already taken on West Ham in the group stage, but suffered defeat in both games (2-1, 2-0). The Londoners currently find themselves in ninth place in the Premier League, and – as many Freiburg fans will already be aware – play their home games at the 68,000-capacity London Stadium.
After the draw was made, SC captain Christian Günter said: “It’s a bit silly that you can play against your group stage opponents in the last 16. I wasn’t there for the last game, but I will be this time. We can go there full of confidence. It’s not out of the question that we’ll advance and get to face a new opponent.”
The home and away legs will take place on 7th and 14th March respectively (both Thursdays), with exact kick-off times yet to be confirmed.
