SC Freiburg can confirm Wooyeong Jeong’s transfer to VfB Stuttgart.
Wooyeong Jeong joined SC in summer 2019 from FC Bayern’s reserves and featured once in the DFB-Pokal and six times for the club’s U23s in his first six months. He then spent the second half of that season back on loan at FC Bayern’s U23s. Since returning for the start of the 2020/21 season, the South Korean played 100 times in all competitions for Freiburg, scoring 11 goals. The 23-year-old attacker appeared 26 times in the Bundesliga last season and scored one goal.
“We really respect Wooyeong’s exemplary behaviour on the pitch and in the dressing room. He is a true team player,” said sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. “Wooyeong did play quite a lot of games for us, however players from South Korea are under a different kind of pressure. More matches for him could help him play more often for the national team and success with them could see him become exempt from military service, therefore stopping him from having to have a break in his career. We wanted to support him with this and wish him all the best for the rest of his career.”
