SC Freiburg have agreed a deal that sees Kenneth Schmidt join Hannover 96 on loan.
The 22-year-old defender joined the Freiburg Football School in 2017 and, after working his way through the U19 and U23 squad, became an official first-team player during the 2022/23 winter break. He has since made 13 competitive appearances for SC in the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and UEFA Europa League.
Schmidt missed the bulk of games in 2024 due to an abdominal muscle injury. He has worked his way back to fitness with the reserve team, playing five times in the Regionalliga Südwest this season.
“There’s no doubt about Kenneth’s huge potential, which we hope regular minutes at Hannover will unlock,” said sporting director Klemens Hartenbach, adding: “This loan move is an excellent opportunity for him.”
SC Freiburg would like to wish Kenneth Schmidt all the best for his time at Hannover 96!
