SC Freiburg and Merlin Röhl have agreed on an early contract extension for the midfielder.
Röhl joined SC Freiburg in August 2022 from FC Ingolstadt 04 and went on to finish runners-up in the 3. Liga in his debut season with the club’s U23s. He made his Bundesliga debut that same season away at Borussia Mönchengladbach on matchday 23. The 22-year-old has since gone on to feature in 40 competitive matches across the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and UEFA Europa League. Röhl is also currently a member of the Germany U21 side.
“Merlin has undergone a positive development at the highest level, just as we had all hoped he would. He has been able to demonstrate his qualities as a footballer and his intelligence as a player in various positions and is an important part of our team,” said board member for sport Jochen Saier. “Merlin has dedicated a lot of time and hard work each and every day to developing in various areas. It’s a great fit for us and we’re delighted to be continuing to work together.”
“I trust in the environment here in Freiburg and am extremely grateful for everyone that I work with on a daily basis here — they have played a large part in my development over the last two years,” said Röhl. “My goal is to reach my full potential. The surroundings at SC are therefore ideal.”
The details of the contract extension will remain undisclosed.
