On Saturday afternoon in Schruns, the team voted Christian Günter, Vincenzo Grifo, Maximilian Eggestein, Michael Gregoritsch and Chicco Höfler on the team council.
Christian Günter’s teammates voted for him as captain. The club’s all-time record appearance maker in the Bundesliga has worn the armband since summer 2020. His vice-captains will be Vincenzo Grifo and Maximilian Eggestein. The other two members of the team council are Michael Gregoritsch and Chicco Höfler. Gregoritsch, who will start pre-season training after the training camp, was voted by his teammates in his absence and was part of the subsequent team photo via FaceTime.
“Being voted to be captain is still something special. Things can change within the team and new people are always coming. I’m happy every year to be voted as captain,” said Christian Günter. The left-back will have even more responsibility on the pitch this season after the introduction of the ‘only the captain’ protocol. This means that only the team’s captain can speak to the referee. The 31-year-old is intrigued by this change: “Speaking on everyone’s behalf will be something different. I hope I can do this job well.”
