SC Freiburg have extended the contracts of head coach Christian Streich, assistant coaches Lars Voßler and Florian Bruns, and fitness coach Daniel Wolf. Goalkeeping coach Michael Müller will take over from Andreas Kronenberg as of next season.

Christian Streich was appointed as first-team head coach in December 2011, and since then, the 56-year-old has taken charge of 383 competitive matches and is the longest-serving current Bundesliga head coach. Patrick Beier has been part of the first-team coaching staff since July 2009 and is the longest-serving assistant coach in the top flight together with Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Frank Geideck. Lars Voßler, the second-longest-serving assistant coach, joined the first team from Freiburg’s academy in January 2012. Florian Bruns has been a part of the setup since he joined from Werder Bremen in July 2017, and Daniel Wolf came from Union Berlin in 2018. Michael Müller has been a goalkeeping coach at Freiburg’s academy since 2014.

“The coaching staff bring a great energy to their work every day. We’re glad to be continuing our work with Christian Streich, Patrick Baier, Lars Voßler, Florian Bruns, Daniel Wolf and Michael Müller, who has worked at Freiburg’s academy for several years, beyond the current season,” commented chairman Jochen Saier. “We’ve built up a really stable foundation in previous years, which is based on mutual trust and meticulous work. We’re convinced that our setup will continue to work hard towards ensuring the development of our team.”

Michael Müller is the new addition to the team. The 32-year-old takes over from Andreas Kronenberg, who will become the Germany Men’s national team goalkeeping coach next season. Michel Müller joined Freiburg’s academy as a youth player in 2006 and was part of the U19 side which won the league in 2008. Müller was the third-choice goalkeeper for SC’s first team in the 2008/09 season and played mostly in the Regionalliga with the reserves. He also enjoyed spells at 1. FC Saarbrücken and at VfL Wolfsburg. He returned to SC in 2014 and began as a goalkeeping coach at the Freiburg academy and with the reserves.

Jochen Saier: “In Michael Müller we have found someone who will allow for a smooth transition. Michael has been working closely with Andreas Kronenberg for a long time and has made active contributions to cementing Freiburg’s goalkeeping philosophy. We’re glad that despite the very painful loss of Andreas Kronenberg, we have the right quality in our ranks to fill his vacancy.”

Details concerning the contracts will remain undisclosed.
