SC Freiburg will end the 2020/21 Bundesliga season away at Eintracht Frankfurt. The match will kick off on Saturday at 15:30 CEST.

SC Freiburg had 12 wins, nine draws and 12 defeats to their name, along with 45 points ahead of the final matchday of the 2019/20 season. A 4-0 victory over FC Schalke 04 saw SCF end the season in eighth place with 48 points.

This season, Freiburg have a record of 12 wins, nine draws, 12 defeats and 45 points, with one game left to play. The aim, then, ahead of the season finale on Saturday is clear: “We want to finish as high as possible and will be pleased with whatever we manage to achieve, because it’s all great for us. We were the eighth best team in Germany last season, and we want to be one of the best teams in Germany again,” said Christian Streich during a virtual press conference on Thursday.

Despite the team’s solid number of points, they are currently in 10th, behind VfB Stuttgart, (45) Borussia Mönchengladbach (46) and Union Berlin (47). “We would rather be seventh instead of eighth, and eighth instead of ninth. But, our chances of finishing seventh are pretty slim,” said Streich. “That’s why we don’t need to spend much time talking about it.”

Instead of focusing on the table, the team will be focused on their own performance this weekend. “We want to end this season, in which we played so well as a team, with another great game. Nothing less than that. With the game in Frankfurt still to come, I’m not satisfied at all. If we aren’t fully there in Frankfurt, then they will be able to overrun us with their individual quality and their might. If that happens, then we won’t manage to win there,” said Streich. “I hope that the lads are prepared to push themselves to their limits once again.”

After a strong campaign, head coach Adi Hütter’s side narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Champions League with a defeat to already-relegated Schalke last weekend. “I’m expecting an aggressive Eintracht Frankfurt, in every sense of the word. They won’t hold back, but will instead be playing with all the frustration that they are feeling right now, in order to prove why they are where they are now.”

Frankfurt will end the season no lower than fifth place, regardless of Saturday’s result. Freiburg, meanwhile, can still finish anywhere between seventh and tenth. Streicht and his coaching staff will have a full squad to choose from ahead of the season finale.
