Attacker Nishan Burkart has agreed a new long-term deal with the club and will be part of the first-team setup in the new season.
The 21-year-old joined SC Freiburg from Manchester United’s U23s in 2019. Born in the Swiss town of Aarau, Burkart played in FC Zurich’s youth setup between 2008 and 2016. He has played 53 games for SCF in the Regionalliga Südwest, and this season scored 16 goals and provided five assists to help the reserves secure promotion to the 3. Liga. Burkart made his Bundesliga debut in April away at Borussia Mönchengladbach and has been part of the matchday squad in two other top-flight games.
“Nishan was one of the key players in our Regionalliga team this season. He brings a lot of pace and intensity to the pitch,” said sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. “Now it’s about Nishan continuing his good development in the first team. We’re delighted that the incredibly successful work done in the Freiburg Football School is bearing fruit in the first team, and plan to integrate more players from the U23s into our Bundesliga team’s training sessions.”
“I have achieved two huge goals this season with promotion to the 3. Liga and now this contract extension,” said Nishan Burkart. “Now I want to take this momentum into pre-season and work hard to take the next step.”
Contractual details remain undisclosed.
