Following the final match of the 2020/21 season, SC Freiburg are bidding farewell to three players. The club would like to thank Florian Müller, Changhoon Kwon and Guus Til for all of their efforts in a Freiburg shirt.
The three players were presented with a collage of pictures from their time in Freiburg as they said their goodbyes at the quarantine hotel in Elztal. “The farewell with the whole team involved reflects the way in which Florian, Changhoon and Guus have always presented themselves - as true team players,” said Jochen Saier.
Goalkeeper Florian Müller joined Freiburg at short notice at the start of the season following the serious injury sustained by Mark Flekken. Müller fulfilled the role as a solid back-up ‘keeper for the team. “Florian was a real stroke of luck for us. He’s done an outstanding job,” praised coach Christian Streich. The 23-year-old played 31 matches in net for SC and will return to his parent club 1. FSV Mainz at the end of the one-season loan.
Changhoon Kwon is leaving Freiburg for South Korea to complete his 18-month mandatory military service. It’s a departure that “hurts”, said Christian Streich. “I’ve often admired him for his incredible discipline and for his attitude.” Kwon joined Freiburg from Dijon in 2019. Injuries prevented the winger from adding to his 36 appearances and three goals in the colours of SC.
Guus Til joined Freiburg in September on loan as the last outfield player in the squad. The attacker made seven Bundesliga appearances and will return to Spartak Moscow for the time being. “It’s a shame he wasn’t able to play many games for us, but he wasn’t in full fitness to begin with. We’ve also been lucky with injuries this year,” said SC’s head coach. “Both Til and Changhoon have contributed a lot to us having such a good atmosphere in the team. Both have had an impact in their own way.”
SC Freiburg would like to wish Florian, Changhoon and Guus all the best for their sporting future.
