SC Freiburg can confirm that Dominique Heintz has signed for 1. FC Union Berlin. The 28-year-old will join them on 1st January.

Dominique Heintz moved to SC from 1. FC Köln in 2018, playing 90 times in all competitions for Freiburg. The defender only featured against Arminia Bielefeld on the opening matchday in the first half of the season.

“We would like to thank Dominique for the action-packed three and a half years we spent together. Heintzi was always a role model on and off the pitch, and helped shaped the team too,” said sporting director Jochen Sauer. “Even with a difficult sporting scenario for him in recent months, he’s still remained a true professional. His move to Union Berlin for the second half of this season is a good solution for both parties. We would like to wish Heintzi all the best for his future.”

Dominique Heintz commented: “I always really enjoyed playing for Freiburg and giving my all. Saying goodbye to the SC fans was unfortunately not possible, so I’m already looking forward to visiting the Europa-Park Stadion again with Union.”
