There are many parallels which connect the Europa-Park and Freiburg – entertainment for the whole family, emotion and high quality just to name a few. After a 30-year partnership, the sponsoring of the stadium is yet another milestone in this long-standing cooperation between SC and the Europa-Park, whose owning family, the Mack family, have also always had a close connection to football. With this deal, the Europa-Park becomes the only theme park in the world to also have its name on a stadium in an elite football league.

The club and the theme park, which lies 40km north of Freiburg, have worked together since the start of the 1990s. The park has been named as the best theme park in the world multiple times (the Golden Ticket Award) and since 2009 has been a premium partner of SC Freiburg.

This long-term contract shows the trust and the regard in which both partners hold for each other, however the parties have both agreed not to disclose the details of the agreement.

The newly-named ‘Europa-Park-Stadion’ lies next to the Freiburger Messe, a place which is intertwined with the Mack family’s history. The company Mack Rides is based in Waldkirch bei Freiburg, and creates attractions and circus wagons for theme parks and fairgrounds like the Freiburger Messe. The company is now known as one of the top five rollercoaster and fairground ride manufacturers in the world.

Roland Mack, co-owner of the Europa-Park, said “SC Freiburg and the Europa-Park – it just makes sense! The club is a beacon of sport in the region and is widely known for its successful and sustainable work with young people. As my brother and I grew up in Waldkirch, we were fascinated that you could see the mountain closest to us, the Kandel, from both the stadium and the Europa-Park – it’s a big part of home for me. The Europa-Park-Stadion looks great with its delicate architecture. It fits into its surroundings well and will be a landmark for Freiburg and the whole region. We are looking forward to lots of exciting games with happy fans in the new home!”

Fellow co-owner of the Europa-Park, Jürgen Mack, is looking forward to the new journey: “I have been a season ticket holder since 1993 and try to be at the stadium for every game. It’s an emotional occasion for me to be supporting the club with this sponsorship.”

Oliver Leki, chairman of SC Freiburg, said: ”We are delighted to give the naming rights of the stadium to such a great company as the Europa-Park. The theme park and SC are rooted in this region and both stand for emotion, sustainability and are down-to-earth. Above all, we are extending this decades-long partnership, something we both want to be successful.”

The first Bundesliga home game in the newly-named Europa-Park-Stadion will take place on the weekend of October 15-17 against RB Leipzig. The actual kick-off date and time will be announced closer to the date by the DFL. Before this, the stadium will be opened with a friendly game between SC and 2. Bundesliga club FC St. Pauli, on the October 7th at 18:30 CEST. Ticketing information will be made available in the last week of September. We thank you for your patience.
